About analyzing Clickstreams

  • Clickstreams are a record of the participant paths (the URLs they visited) during a Navigation task.
  • They allow you to visualize and analyze:
  • Find this information in a Clickstream:
    • URLs
    • Javascript
    • Page titles
  • You can customize data to display in a Clickstream in the Logmanager.
  • When Clickstreams load slowly, you can simplify the data.
  • Pro Tip: Right click on a URL in the clickstream to view a heatmap.

Generate a Clickstream

  1. Go to the Results section of your project.
  2. Click Clicks & Paths clicks_and_paths.jpg.
  3. Select the task from the drop-down.

Simplify Clickstreams

If your Clickstream takes a while to load or is really extensive, simplify your results using these tips:

Hide insignificant paths

  1. Click Customize.
  2. Select Hide Paths.
  3. Hide paths taken by 7% of the participants or less. The option is set to 3% by default.
  4. Click Apply.

Hide domains not relevant to your analysis

This hides ads, personal email, social media, etc.

  1. Click Logmanager logmanager_button.jpg.
  2. In the overlay window that appears, click Hide domains hide_domains_button.jpg.
  3. Select the domains you want to hide.
  4. Click Done.

Show URLs only

The default is to show URLs + JavaScript Functions

  1. Click Logmanager logmanager_button.jpg.
  2. In the overlay window that appears, click Logfile Structure log_file_structure_button.jpg.
  3. Select URL only.
  4. Click Apply.
