Customize System Messages

Use these steps to customize System Messages (System Text).

Compatibility

  • You can customize System Messages for these study types:
    • Advanced UX Research
    • Advanced UX Research for apps
    • Card Sorts
    • Click Tests
    • Live Intercepts
    • Surveys
    • Tree Tests
  • You cannot customize System Messages for these study types:
    • Basic Usability Tests
    • Basic Usability Tests for apps
    • Moderated studies

 

 

Customize System Messages

  1. Go to the Study Builder section of your study.
  2. Click System Text system_text_icon.jpg in the left menu.
  3. Scroll to the field or item you'd like to customize.
  4. Add your text to the corresponding fields.
  5. Click Save.

 

 

Taskbar (For Navigation tasks)

2 button taskbar

  • Success Button: The button participants click when they feel they've finished a task.
  • Confirmation message: The message participants see when they click the Success button.
  • Abandon button: The button participants click when they want to abandon a task.
  • Confirmation message: The message participants see when they click the Abandon button.
    To enable the confirmation message, refer to Add a confirmation message to move to the next task (Advanced UX Research only).

Miscellaneous

Read more link: Used to show more information about or description of the Task.

 

Taskbar Tooltip

  • Title: The title of the tooltip text
  • First & Second bullet points: Editable text that belongs to each bullet point in the tooltip.

 

 

Questions

Buttons

  • Next button: The button participants click to the next question.
  • Start task button: The button participants click to start certain tasks.
  • Exit button: The button participants click to exit the study.
  • Skip button: The button participants click to skip a question, as long as it's not mandatory.

 

Mandatory Questions

Customize the alert message participants see when they try to skip a mandatory question.

  • Rating scale: The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory Rating scale question.
  • Rank Order: The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory Rank Order question.
  • Choice (one answer): The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory choice - one answer question.
  • Choice (matrix/multiple): The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory choice/matrix - multiple answer question.
  • Minimum (multiple): The message participants see when they haven't selected or given the required minimum number of answers in a multiple answer question.
  • Maximum (multiple): The message participants see when they haven't selected or given the required maximum number of answers in a multiple answer question.
  • Exact number (multiple): The message participants see when they haven't selected or given the exact number of answers in a multiple answer question.
  • Open (box/one line): The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory open comment box or open one line question.
  • Open (more lines): The message participants see when they haven't answered a mandatory open more lines question.
  • Screenshot Click Testing: The message participants see when they haven't completed the required clicks in a task.
  • Screenshot timeout: The message participants see when they click Next before the allotted time when viewing an image.
  • Other options: The message participants see when they haven't typed anything in a text box.
  • Page error: The message participants see when they haven't completed a Survey as intended. 

 

Miscellaneous

  • Choice Drop down default: Default text in all drop-down lists in the study.
  • Screenshot questions (help): Instructions on how to proceed that are shown to participants before starting a task.
  • Clicks label (Click Testing): Text displayed for each click made in Click Test questions or Screenshot Click Testing tasks.
  • Select item button (tree testing): Text participants see when they have an item to select in a Tree Test question or Tree Testing task.
  • Selected item button (tree testing): Text participants see when they select an item in a Tree Test question or Tree Testing task.
  • Question tab (multimedia): Text in the multimedia question tab.

 

 

Card Sort

The Card Sort section is only available for Card Sorts and task-based studies.

  • Click to name: Placeholder text participants see before editing a category name.
  • Categories: Header for the categories.
  • Items left: Text shown beside the number of items left.
  • Instructions: Header shown in the instructions window.
  • Continue Button: The button participants click after they read the instructions.
  • Confirmation message:
    • Header participants see in the Before You Continue window.
    • This window appears after participants finished card sorting and click Next.
  • Yes, continue:
    • The button participants click if they are sure about the answers given.
    • This is located in the Confirmation message window.
  • Cancel: Button participants click if they are unsure about their answers and want to review them.
  • Continue drag message: Message shown if participants click Next before adding all items to a category.
  • Continue drag: The button participants click to continue and include all items in a category.
  • Review Instructions: Link participants can click to view the instructions for a task.
  • Add Category: Link participants can click to add more categories.
  • Items info: Text to add additional information about an item.
  • Click item for info: Placeholder message to edit the field.
  • Category name: Text where you ask participants to add a name for a group.
  • Category description: Text where you ask participants to add a description for a group.
  • Review items: Text where you ask participants to double-check items they added to each category.
  • Ask category name: Text box where you ask participants to name a category.
  • Modify category name: Text box where you ask participants if they want to define a new category.
  • Ask category description: Text box where you ask participants to define a category.
