Randomize answers in a question

Use these steps to randomize answers in a question. Randomization shows answers in a different order to each participant and helps to eliminate order bias.

Randomize answers in a question

  1. Go to the Study Builder tab of your study.
  2. In the left menu, choose the questionnaire.
  3. Hover over the question, to reveal the menu options.
  4. Click Edit question edit_question_icon.jpg.
  5. Under Randomization Options, choose how to randomize:
    • No Randomization: Answers show in the order they were entered.
    • Randomize all the Answers: Answers show in random order.
    • Randomize Answers from ... to ...: Your defined range of answers shows in random order.
  6. Click Save.

 

 

Randomization in Tree Test tasks or Tree Testing questions

For Tree Testing questions and Tree Test tasks you can randomize the nodes within a tree:

  1. Go to the Study Builder tab of your study.
  2. In the left menu, choose the questionnaire.
  3. Go to the Tree Test task or edit an existing Tree Testing question.
  4. Under Randomization Options, choose how to randomize:
    • No Randomization: Nodes in the tree are shown in the order they were entered.
    • Randomize along with its sub-options:
      • First Level only: Randomizes only the nodes in the first level (parent categories).
      • Sub-Levels only: Randomizes only the nodes within the second level and below.
      • First Level and Sub-Levels: Randomizes the nodes at all the levels.
  5. Click Save.
