Common use cases

As you think about upgrading to the UserTesting platform, you'll find that many of your use cases can still be addressed. Below are some common use cases and how UserTesting can meet your needs.

Use Case In UserTesting
Collect large-scale quantitative feedback with surveys Use UserTesting’s surveys to collect structured feedback using a variety of question types. If your survey has 20 or more participants, you’ll receive AI-generated themes for faster analysis.
Identify usability issues in early designs with quantitative prototype testing Conduct large-scale prototype tests using follow-up multiple-choice and rating scale questions. If you use Figma, you can set up Figma tasks (beta) in an Interaction test. UserTesting also offers secure prototype hosting, mobile prototype testing with other tools, and guidance for testing with Figma
Observe how users interact with an early design with qualitative prototype testing Conduct think-out-loud prototype tests to see how users navigate, where they get stuck, and what they expect from the experience. Short tests can also help you get quick qualitative feedback to move your designs forward. UserTesting also offers secure prototype hosting, mobile prototype testing with other tools, and guidance for testing with Figma
Analyze navigation patterns and task completion in live website testing. Use mobile screen recording or moderated interviews to see exactly how users interact with your mobile apps or sites. Include camera tasks that ask participants to show you something in their environment. UserTesting also has several templates for mobile testing.
Track UX performance over time by measuring key usability metrics via benchmark studies. Use interaction tests to run recurring studies with the same tasks and questions. UserTesting also has QXscore (Quality Experience Score) to help you quantify the quality of your digital experience.
Assess immediate user reactions by showing a design, webpage, or prototype for a few seconds with first impression testing. Set up short exposure tests or include the Five-Second Test task type to learn what participants recall and how they feel about it.
Evaluate your competitors’ digital experiences through a competitive analysis. Run think-out-loud or interaction tests where users interact with your competitor’s product, site, or app and share thoughts on usability, preference, and overall experience.
Present multiple design or concept variations and collect user preferences to determine the best option via a comparison or preference test. With UserTesting’s Balanced comparison feature, create two sections in your study for your two designs or concepts. The order in which participants will see the two parts is automatically randomized. There are also ways to compare multiple concepts.
Optimize site navigation with information architecture testing. UserTesting allows you to build integrated card sort or tree test tasks in your study. The card sort option also allows you to make the card sort closed, open, or hybrid. For more granular analysis, try the classic card sort or classic tree test.
