What is a Viewer? What is a Collaborator?
- Viewers and Collaborators have the same function; the main difference is that Viewers are assigned to Flex plan accounts while Collaborators are assigned to Seat-based plan accounts.
- Viewers and Collaborators are roles for people who only need to view test results and share insights from them but do not need to create and launch tests.
What can Viewers or Collaborators do?
Viewers and Collaborators can:
- Access completed results, including all data available in the following tabs:
- Sessions
- Metrics
- Summary
- Details
- View videos
- Create clips
- Create highlight reels
- Share findings
- Start a Live Conversation (on both Flex and Seat-based plans)
Viewers and Collaborators cannot:
- Create tests
- Launch tests
- Create a Live Conversation (on both Flex and Seat-based plans)
- View drafts from a shared link
Note: They can only view drafts from the dashboard.
Why invite Viewers or Collaborators?
The Viewer and Collaborator roles have several benefits. Invite these roles to your account to:
- Assist with test session projects.
- Gain insights from customers and build empathy with end-users.
Who should be a Viewer or Collaborator?
Listed below are ways Viewers and Collaborators can engage on the UserTesting platform.
Researcher and designer
- Researchers review test results to gather insights to craft and inform personas. This role reviews and shares findings to support actionable recommendations.
- Designers want to see the results firsthand and create annotations and clips as they iterate on their designs and next steps from the test.

Managers, executives, and senior decision-makers
- Managers and executives can interact firsthand with test studies and results to better understand test plans and outcomes.
- Managers, executives, and decision-makers are added to watch a highlight reel or a video clip from a test to observe and provide feedback while creating team ownership.
- Managers can oversee projects run by their team but don't need to launch a test themselves.
How do I assign Viewer or Collaborator roles to team members?
Admins can assign Viewer (on Flex plans) and Collaborator (on Seat-based plans) roles in two different ways:
- Assign the role when adding team members to the UserTesting account.
- Assign the role from the People tab (under Settings) by clicking on the account member's profile.
Other account role information
- Depending on your plan, a cost is associated with adding creators, light, or standard users.
- You can add an unlimited number of Viewers and Collaborators for either Flex or Seat-based plans.
