About Site Intercept cookies

  • Site Intercepts use cookies to not intercept the same person multiple times.
  • A cookie is placed in the visitor's browser when the Site Intercept code is executed, even if the visitor doesn't get intercepted.
  • If the visitor isn't intercepted (depending on the invitation rate), a session cookie is added to the browser and gets deleted when the browser session ends.

Set the time between Site Intercept triggers

  • The Invite all users again after x days setting only impacts the expiration time for cookies of participants that have been presented with the Site Intercept (the amount of visitors intercepted depends on the invitation rate).
  • The Invite all users again after 0 days setting allows participants to see an intercept every time they access the page, as long as they are in a new browser session.
  • Page visitors that aren't presented with the Site Intercept have a session cookie placed in their browser that is deleted when the browser session ends.
  • Some browsers have settings to remember your session after they are closed.
    • This means visitors are not intercepted unless cookies are deleted manually.
    • For information on how to influence the behavior for not intercepted page visitors, refer to Advanced configuration for Site Intercepts.

To set the time between Site Intercept triggers, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Study Builder section of your study.
  2. Click Settings settings_icon.jpg in the left menu.
  3. Choose Security & Controls.

Use different cookies for each segment

  • When a study has more than one segment, by default all segments share the same cookie.
    • The cookie name for all segments is the same
    • If visitors got intercepted through one segment of this study, they will not be intercepted by other segments as the cookie is already set on their browser.
  • You can define the name to give to the cookie directly through the javascript code.

To use different cookies for each segment, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Study Builder section of your study.
  2. Click Settings settings_icon.jpg in the left menu.
  3. Choose Security & Controls.

  4. Scroll to Cookie settings.
