Quick Answer: Validate an idea

The Validate an idea option is an effective tool for learning whether users grasp the basic idea(s) behind your design and helps to answer any conceptual questions you might have during the earliest stages of the design process.

About Quick Answer: Validate an idea

  • Validate an idea is one of the available Quick Answers. 
  • Quick Answers allows you to collect recorded video feedback from customers or prospects as they complete tasks and answer questions.
  • The tasks and questions are written for you by UserTesting and designed to answer the most common marketing challenges.
  • The focus of Validate an idea is on learning how customers react to a product or service idea.
  • Think of this as a concept test, something you do before creating a full prototype.
  • We ask customers a series of questions about your concept, and they also say if they think it is valuable.

 

 

When to use Validate an idea

Use Validate an idea in the Discovery phase of the development process to:

  • Get reactions to a product or feature idea
  • Identify potential questions from customers

 

 

How to set up Validate an idea

  1. Click the Create test dropdown menu and select Template Library.

  2. From the Template Gallery, click the Quick Answers filter.

  3. Then, find and click Validate an idea.

    Note: Depending on your subscription, you may not have access to all the Quick Answers shown above.
  4. Provide a link to a publicly accessible page or document that shows or describes the content.
    Note: The link needs to point to a single document hosted online. The link can be to a Microsoft or Google doc, a Slides or PowerPoint presentation, a PDF, image, text, or anything similar.

    Important: Make sure the link to the document is set to View so the contributor can't make any changes. Here's some information on sharing a file.
  5. If you haven't already, add your audience.

 

 

Launching a test

  1. Preview your test.
  2. Once you've ensured everything is correct, launch your test.

 

 

Results

  • After you click Launch Test, we send the test to contributors who match your chosen demographics.
  • As contributors finish, the software uploads the recorded video to our system.
  • You'll be emailed when the videos are ready to watch (to configure notifications, see "Email notification preferences"
  • After all the contributors finish, a summary of the results will appear below the test title.
  • From the Dashboard, click on a test title to be taken to the Results page.

Results tab

  • After the Quick Answer test, the Results tab shows contributors' open-ended feedback on their recent experience completing your task.
  • It summarizes the findings from the test:
    • Do more contributors find the activity likable?
    • Did the contributors express any frustrations?
    • Videos of your contributors' open-ended feedback will display as Key takeaways under the Results tab.
