How do I start gathering feedback?

The Figma Plugin offers an AI-powered flow designed for speed, simplicity, and effective results. Here's how it works:

  1.  Open the Figma Plugin and click Create Test
    • Open the plugin from the design file of the prototype you’d like to test. Make sure you have ‘can edit’ permissions for that file.
  2. Define your test
    This includes:
    • The name of the test
    • The device you want the participants to use.
    • The flow (prototype starting point) on the canvas that you'd like to test.
    • A Prototype Brief- A description of the experience you're testing, used to generate a Scenario for participants.
    • A Task Goal - The task participants should try to complete the prototype.
Note: The more detail you include in the prototype brief and task goal, the more accurate and valuable the test results will be. Always provide as much context as possible.

3. Select "Generate Test"
The plugin will automatically create a usability test based on your inputs, utilizing AI and our own best practices. It is trained to remove bias and identify key topics and questions for a usability test. It will include:

  •
    • Appropriate task types (e.g., Think Out Loud, rating scale, verbal response)
    • Instructions aligned with your goals
    • Structured test flow matching your selected prototype path.

How can I make changes to my test?

Once your test is generated, you'll land on the Review screen. This is your chance to refine and customize your test before launch.

On the screen, you can:

  • Edit task and question content
    • Update the instructions text, or adjust follow-up question content to better fit your prototype goals.
  • Modify rating scale labels
    • Select the scale labels from a list of predefined options.
  • Define your success path
    • Identify the key steps in your prototype that represent a successful outcome by selecting “Add success path” and clicking on each frame in the Figma canvas in the correct order. This helps identify when participants stray or struggle within the test results.

Note: Select the key path through your prototype by choosing individual screens one by one that represent the success flow.

  • Adjust prototype display settings

    • Set the prototype display and scale settings to be the appropriate selection for your prototype.

Note: This ensures participants see the test as intended. You can preview these settings within the plugin before finalizing.

Selecting an Audience for the Test

The UserTesting Figma Plugin is built for fast feedback, and leverages Reusable Audiences to make that possible.

On the Review page, you'll find the Audience selection dropdown at the bottom of the screen. From here, you can choose from any Reusable Audiences available in your workspace.

What to Expect:

  • Dropdown menu listing your available Reusable Audiences.
  • Helpful context is displayed after selection, including audience type, demographics, and screeners.
  • Consistency across tests by using your company's pre-existing audiences.

This lets you launch with confidence, without needing to reconfigure your audience each time.

Note: The plugin is based on our new testing experience, and as such is not backwards compatible with Classic UserTesting reusable audiences.

Monitoring your test

While the Figma Plugin is designed for fast, in-flow test creation, test monitoring and participant management are handled in the full UserTesting platform.

To monitor your test:
After launching a test from the plugin, you'll see a link to the core platform. Selecting this link will take you directly to the corresponding test in the UserTesting dashboard.

From there, you can:

  • Track test progress in real time.
  • Review participant sessions as they're submitted
  • Assess response quality

Report any issues with contributors or test performance.

This hybrid workflow ensures the speed of the plugin experience while providing you with full control and visibility on the platform when needed.
