Overview (setup and participant experience)

Watch the video below for an overview of how to add a password to a Figma tasks as well as the participant experience:

How to add the password in a Figma task

  1. Add a Figma task to your test.
  2. Connect your prototype by adding the link to the flow you want to test.

    Notes:
    • You need a Figma URL that contains .../proto/...
    • You need at least "can view" access to the file.
  3. Toggle the option that reads This prototype is password protected.
  4. Add the password to input field that appears labelled Figma prototype password.
    • No need to add the password to the task instructions.
    • Passwords must be 30 characters or fewer.
  5. Complete the rest of the task setup as usual by adding task instructions, a success path, etc.

Participant experience

When testing a password-protected prototype within a Figma task, the participants' experience will be slightly different in desktop and mobile tests.

  • Desktop tests – The password is entered automatically on behalf of the participant.
  • Mobile tests – The participant will get a copy password button along with the task instructions and will need to enter the copied password once they start the task.

FAQs

Q: Where is this feature available?

A: It’s available in Figma tasks, found under new Think-out-loud tests and Interaction Tests.

Q: Can I use this for multiple Figma tasks?

A: Yes! You can use multiple password-protected prototypes within a single test.

Q: Do participants need to re-enter the password if the test has more Figma tasks using the same prototype?

A: No. Figma caches access for 24 hours after a password is entered. So, participants can revisit the prototype within that timeframe without re-entering the password. This behavior is determined by Figma’s settings and is not something that can be adjusted within UserTesting.

Q: What if I update the password after launching the test?

A: You’ll need to manually update the password field in the Figma Task. The old password will no longer work.
