Set up a focus group
- UserTesting Network – Focus groups with our UserTesting Network will go through our Professional Services team. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or submit a request via our project request form.
- Invite Network – Setting up a focus group with Invite Network will allow you to create a link and send it to your external participants. For more information on how to set this up, please see the instructions below.
-
Note: Please avoid sending Invite Network links to our UserTesting Network.
To set up a focus group with your own participants, follow these steps:
- Click the Create test button on your UserTesting dashboard and select Live Conversation.
- Choose the Create link option to generate a shareable link for your audience.
- Click Provide availability to specify the dates and times you're available for the focus group sessions.
- After setting your availability, click Done at the bottom of the page, then select Launch and get link to proceed.
Invite participants and observers
- On the Sessions tab, click Actions and copy the Contributor "join interview" link. Share this link with individuals you want to join the discussion.
- To invite team members as observers (who won't participate in the discussion), choose Invite colleagues under the Actions menu. This will generate a link to share with your team.
- Ensure that all participants and observers have the necessary information and access links ahead of the scheduled session.
Manage sessions and scheduling
- After launching, select Copy schedule link to obtain the scheduling link.
- Paste this link into an incognito browser window to schedule the session.
- If you're organizing multiple sessions, repeat this process for each one to ensure all focus group slots are appropriately scheduled.
- Regularly monitor your dashboard for upcoming sessions and make any necessary adjustments to accommodate participants' needs.
Additional considerations and best practices
- Clearly communicate the purpose and expectations of the focus group to all participants beforehand.
- Test your technical setup (audio, video, internet connection) before the session to prevent disruptions.
- Prepare a discussion guide to keep the conversation focused and productive.
- Encourage open dialogue among participants, allowing them to build upon each other's ideas.
- After the session, review the recorded video and transcript (available on the platform) to extract valuable insights.
