Launch an unreleased iOS or Android app test (New experience)

Learn how to test an unreleased iOS or Android app. We recommend creating mobile app tests in the New experience. The New experience provides a more reliable participant experience and avoids a known issue that can impact mobile app tests created in the Classic experience.

Participant experience

  • Participants will be directed to the application's store listing.
  • Participants can:

    • Install the application if it is not already installed, or

    • Open the application if it is already installed on their device.

  • Participants can then continue the test within the installed application.

Known issue in Classic experience (iOS 18)

With iOS 18, participants may be required to trust an installed application before they can launch it.

During the trust process:

  • Participants must navigate to their device settings.

  • iOS may require the participant to restart their device.

When the device restarts:

  • The UserTesting mobile app closes.

  • When participants reopen the UserTesting app, they are returned to the test-in-progress screen.

  • Participants are unable to successfully resume the testing session.

There is currently no reliable workaround for this behavior. Please launch your mobile app tests in the New experience instead (steps above).
