About templates

In UserTesting templates are available both for the classic experience (current article) and new experience. Both types of templates share the same page in the UserTesting platform and you can switch between the two through the new/classic toggle at the top of the page. You have 2 ways to get there:

• Through the left-hand side navigation under Library > Templates  
• Through the Templates Library option in the Test creation dropdown.

Unlike the new experience, the classic experience:

• offers templates created and curated by UserTesting for a variety of subjects, device types, and industries
• when it comes to saving your own templates, it only allows you to save audiences and test plans separately (instead of whole tests)

Create a test with a classic template

1. Click Create test from the UserTesting dashboard, then select Templates library.
2. On the Templates page, Turn the toggle at the top of the page to Classic.
   
3. Use the filters and categories to search for a template that meets your needs.
4. To preview a template, click in the middle of its tile.
   
5. If you believe the template could be a good starting point for your test, click Use this template.
   
6. Select your asset type and how you want to invite participants. Then, click Next.
   
7. When customizing your test plan from the template, you'll choose:
   • The number of participants you are seeking for this test
   • The desired demographics, or characteristics, of the participants
   • The devices and operating system that you want the participants to use
     Note: Some templates have pre-built audiences available for your use. The screener questions typically have [fill-in-the-blank] sections annotated with brackets.
8. Click the Edit button to edit the test plan, including questions, tasks, a scenario, a starting URL, and more.
   
9. Make any necessary changes to the Test plan. The tasks and questions in templates are just a starting point. You can revise, remove, or add new tasks and questions.
   Note: There are typically one or multiple [fill-in-the-blank] sections throughout the test plan that will require you to add the specific details of your test. Fill these in with the required phrases and add any additional instructions as necessary for participants to successfully complete the test.
