About the classic to updated think-out-loud test conversion
- You can now convert Classic Unmoderated tests into New think-lout-loud tests during duplication.
- Most common task types and settings are supported.
- Some tasks are simplified or split into multiple components.
- A few tasks are not supported or are planned for future support.
How it works
If you're part of the beta group, you'll see a new option when you duplicate a Classic Unmoderated Test:
- Duplicate in Classic: Creates a copy just like before.
- Duplicate and convert: Creates a new unmoderated think-aloud test using the content from your original test in the updated experience.
- This lets you explore the updated platform experience without starting from scratch.
To duplicate and convert in the Classic experience, follow these steps:
- Find the test you want to duplicate.
- Select the dropdown options (three dots).
- Choose Duplicate.
- Check the list to verify your test type is part of the new experience.
- Select the Duplicate and convert button.
What gets converted?
Not every task or setting from Classic unmoderated tests maps exactly to the new format. Here's what to expect.
Fully converted task types
These convert seamlessly into the updated think-out-loud equivalents:
| Task types | How it converts |
| Written response | Becomes Written response. Minimum character limits are now available. |
| Verbal response | Converts directly to Verbal response. |
| Multiple choice | Converts with instructions and answer options. Additional features include: “Other” and “None of the above” options. |
| Rating scale | Converts fully, including labels and point scale. |
Partially converted task types
These tasks carry over core content, but may be simplified or restructured:
| Task types | How it converts |
| Task | Converts to a Navigation task. URLs aren’t copied; follow-ups added for metrics. |
| Scenario | Converts to Instructions (displayed only in the test, not externally). |
| Post-test questionnaire | Breaks into individual questions at the end of the test. |
| Findability | Converts to a Navigation task with follow-up questions. |
| Visual appeal | Converts to a Navigation task with follow-up questions. |
| Content | Converts to a Navigation task with follow-up questions. |
Coming soon
These task types are not yet supported but are planned:
- Card sort
- Tree test
- Image task

- Video or Audio
- Camera task
- Custom tasks
- 5 Second test
- Link or Upload app
- Classic Card sort

Review before launching
