The System Usability Scale (SUS) is a commonly used 10-item questionnaire used to evaluate the usability of a product or design. UserTesting's SUSplus app provides the ability to add the SUS into any UserTesting test.

The SUSplus app can be used to collect contributor feedback by including it as a link from your UserTesting test. We recommend most users start with the System Usability Scale (SUS+) template that is available in the Templates gallery (under the All templates category). 

 Benefits of using the SUSplus app include:

  • The SUS questionnaire is already created for you.
  • The app calculates the SUS score for you.
  • The app has two additional built-in questions that you can choose to include, the Adjective Rating Scale and the Promoter Rating Scale. 

Note: SUSplus tests are not optimized for mobile.

When should you ask SUSplus questions?

SUSplus questions allow you to:

  • Measure the experience of using a product or design on a standard scale, so include this questionnaire at the end of a usability test where contributors interacted with your design, site, or app.
  • Compare scores across designs using a consistent scale, so include this questionnaire in sets of tests that you want to compare, such as comparing a current design to a new design, your design to a competitor, or each channel in a multi-channel experience.
  • Compare scores over time using a consistent scale, so include this questionnaire in any test that you intend to run on a regular cadence, such as monthly or quarterly benchmark tests.

How do I set up the SUSplus app for my test?

1. Go to

Select SUSplus when creating a new test.


2. Enter the test details. 


Note: The Name is only visible to you, but the Description will be seen by the contributors.

3. Set up the questionnaire. 

Enter the Subject—this is the term you want to use to refer to your design, site, app, etc., which will be included in each question.


Also, select whether or not you want to include the Adjective Rating Scale and/or the Promoter Rating Scale questions.

  • Adjective Rating Scale provides a range of adjectives for the contributor to select.
  • Promoter Rating Scale is a 0-10 scale regarding how likely it is that the contributor would recommend the design they saw.

4. Publish the test.

Select the button to publish the questionnaire and then copy the URL to share with your contributors.


Note: Creators can access, edit, and view results for their own tests. They cannot view or access tests launched by others on the account. Admins can publish and unpublish tests created by others, just as the creator can. However, admins cannot edit tests created by others. Once a test is deployed, admins can also view and share results as necessary.

How do I include my SUSplus link in my UserTesting test?

For an unmoderated test, add a URL asset to the end of the test and put the SUSplus link into the URL field. Update the instruction text to reflect that they will be taken to a questionnaire.

For example, you might write: "You have been taken to a new page with a questionnaire. Please complete the questionnaire and then move on to the next step."


For Live Conversation tests, at the end of the discussion, put the link to the SUSplus questionnaire into the chat, so that the contributor can follow the link and complete the questionnaire before you end the session.

Results of your SUSplus

SUS scores fall on a scale of 0 to 100. The average SUS score falls around 68. Scores above 68 are considered above average and those below 68 are considered below average. For more information, see the website.

Please note, by default, the timestamp for the results of your SUS questionnaire will be in GMT.

The SUSplus app provides different views of the contributor data, including:

  • Summary: This shows a summary of scores, including an overall SUS score as well as scores for the questions that focus on learnability and those that focus on usability.


  • Data: A view showing the actual scores for each question.


  • Radar Graph: A visual representation of the ratings.
