About the UserTesting MCP
Note: The UserTesting MCP is in open beta. Your account needs to be enabled or opted in and needs access to Generative AI features. Contact Alison Held at aheld@usertesting.com to request access. See Who can use the UserTesting MCP.
The UserTesting MCP is a connector, built on the Model Context Protocol, that lets your AI client work with your UserTesting account. Once you connect it, you can describe a test in plain language, create it as a draft, launch it to participants, find your existing tests, and read the AI summary for a completed test without leaving the AI client you are already working in.
All clients connect to the same server URL: https://ai.usertesting.com/mcp

What you can do today
The UserTesting MCP exposes nine actions to your AI client. You do not call them by name — you describe what you want, and the AI client selects them.

What the UserTesting MCP cannot do yet
These are current limits of the UserTesting MCP, not of UserTesting:
- Session-level data is not available. The UserTesting MCP returns the test-level AI summary only. Individual session transcripts, task-level responses, and quantitative data cannot be retrieved through it. The UserTesting API already exposes those today.
- You cannot query past research across tests. There is no cross-test or knowledge-repository search through the UserTesting MCP.
- Live Conversation is not supported. You cannot create, schedule, or launch a Live Conversation test through the UserTesting MCP.
- It cannot build an audience or a screener for you. For a panel test, you select an audience that already exists in the workspace.

Who can use the UserTesting MCP
Two things determine whether you can use the UserTesting MCP.
Your account must have access to Generative AI features. The UserTesting MCP generates tests and summaries using AI, so accounts that have turned Generative AI features off are excluded. If your account has opted out, your AI client reports No Accounts with Generative AI and MCP access enabled when it tries to list your accounts. Ask your UserTesting account admin whether Generative AI features are enabled.
Your workspace permissions decide what you can do. The UserTesting MCP gives you exactly the access you already have in UserTesting.

Permissions are held separately for think-out-loud tests, surveys, and interaction tests, so you may be able to create one type and not another in the same workspace.
If your workspace requires reviewer approval before a test can go live, the UserTesting MCP creates the draft and stops there until an admin approves you.
How your data and credentials are handled
Authentication is per user. You sign in with your own UserTesting credentials — customer login and employee SSO both work — and authorize your AI client once. There is no shared login and no service account.
Your credentials are never stored in the AI client. The client holds only a short-lived access token issued after you sign in.
Sessions expire. Your session ends based on your organization's token settings. If your AI client reports that it cannot reach UserTesting data, authenticate again.

Does my account need to be opted into the beta?
Yes. To request access to the MCP, contact Alison Held at aheld@usertesting.com.
Is the UserTesting MCP the same as the UserTesting API?
No. They are separate. Test creation is available through the UserTesting MCP only. Reading results — session transcripts, session details, and quantitative data — is available through the UserTesting API today and is not yet in the UserTesting MCP.
Does it cost anything to connect?
Launching a test consumes participant sessions the same way launching from UserTesting does, but it does not cost to connect to the MCP.
