About UserTesting for Figma Plugin guardrails

  • The UserTesting for Figma Plugin is designed to help teams gather feedback quickly, but speed should never come at the expense of quality.
  • In some cases, teams need additional oversight to ensure every test meets internal standards. To support this, UserTesting for Figma Plugin includes Approval flow, giving organizations more control over what gets launched while still enabling fast, designer-led testing.
  • If Approval flow guardrails are enabled:
    • You can still create tests quickly in Figma.
    • No extra setup is required in the plugin.
    • You’ll be notified via email when approval is granted and the test is launched.

Note: If you still have questions about Approval flow or how to configure permissions for this workflow, refer to our Approval flow documentation for detailed setup guidance.

Assign Approval flow settings

  1. Go to your UserTesting Settings.
  2. Navigate to the People tab.
  3. Click the three dots menu next to the account member and select View profile.
  4. Under Workspace permissions, assign the appropriate Approval flow setting:
    - Doesn't need review: Creators who are not part of the review process. This is the default setting, and it’s only applicable if others need review in the workspace.
    - Reviewer: Creators who are responsible for reviewing and approving drafts. Reviewers must have creator permissions.
    - Needs review: Creators who can draft tests but need approval from a Reviewer before launch.

How Approval flow guardrails work with the plugin

  1. Create your test in Figma.

  2. If you have “Needs review” as your Approval flow settings, you will only have the option to send your test for review. Reviewers and “Doesn’t need review” can directly launch their test.
  3. Any assigned Reviewers in your workspace will be notified, from the UserTesting dashboard and via email, to evaluate the test and either make changes or approve it.
  4. Once approved, the Reviewer can launch the test directly from the UserTesting platform to begin gathering feedback.
