This article reviews the countries from which UserTesting contributors are recruited. It also looks at the Additional country filters feature, and briefly describes the types of restrictions that prevent UserTesting from recruiting people from certain nations.
Thanks to our ever-expanding worldwide UserTesting Contributor Network, you can access test contributors from more than 35 countries. You can tap into this reservoir of potential contributors whether you're testing with the UserTesting Contributor Network or want to recruit Custom Network or Invite Network contributors.

Where Can I Expect Contributors to Come from?
A significant portion of our global Contributor Network consists of contributors from the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada, India, and Australia, which UserTesting refers to as the Contributor Network’s “standard” countries.
This pool of contributors, because it is expansive and varied, allows you to test often with the UserTesting Contributor Network and to be both inclusive and selective:
- Inclusive: Depending on the type of test, you can run studies with a larger number of contributors so as to get as broad a range of responses as possible.
- Selective: The size and depth of the Contributor Network affords you the opportunity to use a greater array of filters and even more screener questions to hone a precisely-defined test audience.
What About Countries Aside from These “Standard” Nations?
All UserTesting accounts have access to the standard countries discussed earlier. But let's say you want to test with people outside of this group of contributors. Depending on how your account is set up, you may have access to contributors from other countries by selecting from the Platform’s Additional country filters list:
The Additional country filters section
Note: A country that isn’t included in either the standard Countries section or the Additional country filters section means that UserTesting is not recruiting from that country at the present time. If you are still interested in searching for UserTesting Network contributors in a country not listed, select the Rest of the World option—the last option under the Countries filter. Then use screener questions to attempt to recruit contributors from the desired location. (Note, however, that we cannot guarantee that you’ll find any UserTesting Network Contributor members from within that country.)
Alternatives to searching for UserTesting Contributor Network members in nations not listed is to leverage the Custom Network or Invite Network features (see more information below), or purchase custom recruiting through UserTesting’s Professional Services Team.
Though ever expanding, the networks within these "additional" countries are, generally speaking, significantly smaller than standard-country networks. As a result, and because the UserTesting Platform by default prevents contributors from taking frequent tests from you each year, you will likely exhaust these reserves more quickly.
To learn best practices for recruiting and testing within countries that have smaller networks, please see our What to Do When No One Is Taking Your Test training course and the Knowledgebase article “What Can I Do if I'm Having Difficulty Recruiting Test Contributors?”
A note about languages: Unless told otherwise, contributors will answer questions and talk out loud in English. If you wish for them to respond in the specified non-English language, you must make it clear in your instructions and tasks. Refer to our “Testing in Non-English Languages” article for more information.
Why Doesn’t the UserTesting Contributor Network Recruit From Other Countries?
The reasons why UserTesting doesn't test in a particular country can vary, but they generally fall into three categories:
- Countries with localization/privacy laws: This bucket is limited to Russia and a few other nations where, because local laws require all customer data to be stored only on local servers, UserTesting doesn't have a server presence.
- US export laws/sanctions: Committed to complying with US export laws, UserTesting will not support testing within countries against which the US has imposed economic sanctions: Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and the Crimea region of Ukraine. (This list is subject to change should sanctions be lifted or other countries added.)
- PayPal doesn't provide services: Since we pays contributors through PayPal, UserTesting will not recruit contributors from countries where PayPal does not do business—even if UserTesting is technically capable of supporting testing in those countries.

Can I Invite Anyone to Custom Network? What About Invite Network?
Two of the restrictions described above—US-imposed sanctions and restrictive localization laws—also apply to Custom Network and Invite Network contributors.
But provided that neither of these two restrictions are a factor, you can use Invite Network to recruit your own contributors, even from countries where UserTesting is not actively recruiting or where PayPal does not have a presence.
Mobile Testing vs. Desktop Testing
Another caveat that applies to contributors you've invited: There are countries where it is possible for these contributors to test on desktop but NOT on mobile. This is because the UserTesting mobile app is unavailable in that country’s app store, which means that even those contributors you invite can test ONLY on a desktop computer.
What If I’m not Paying Invite Network Contributors or I’ve Set up an Unpaid Custom Network?
The localization and sanctions prohibitions described in the bullet points above are still in effect with unpaid Custom Network and Invite Network contributors. But you do have the ability to recruit an uncompensated contributor pool, even from countries where the UserTesting Contributor Network is not yet actively recruiting.
