About Device settings
Device settings allow you to specify the type of device (computer, mobile or tablet, agnostic) that participants can use to complete tasks or answer questions.
Why use Device settings?
- Device-Specific Insights: Participants using the right device help you gather insights relevant to how your target audience interacts with your product in real-world scenarios. For example, a mobile app test should involve participants on mobile devices to ensure usability in the correct context.
- Avoiding Mismatches: Device restrictions prevent participants from using unsuitable devices. This ensures the data collected is valid and actionable.
- Improved Participant Experience: Participants are guided to the appropriate device for the test, reducing confusion and frustration
Set up Device settings
-
Accessing the Device Settings:
- Navigate to the test creation page.
- Open the ‘Edit’ menu on the test summary.
-
Selecting Device Types:
- Computer: Ideal for website usability tests or tasks requiring detailed inputs on desktop.
- Mobile and Tablet: Suitable for mobile app tests or responsive mobile web design checks.
-
Any Device: Best for general surveys or tests not tied to specific platforms.
-
Reviewing and Editing:
- Double-check the selected device type in the settings review page.
- Adjust the settings anytime before the test launches if needed.
Benefits in practice
- Ease of setup: The modal makes it simple to choose and modify settings that align with your study goals.
- Consistency across audiences and tests: For multi-audience tests, the unified device settings eliminate confusion and ensure all participants contribute to cohesive insights. To retain consistency, the experience is the same, whether on a Survey or an Interaction Test.
Pro tips for Device settings
Default Configurations:
- For Surveys, the default configuration will be All Devices to maximize sample size.
- For Interaction Tests, the default is set to Computers to align with our most common use cases. Make sure to switch this to Mobile and Tablet if that is your desired format.
