Saved test plans allow you to create and share tasks and questions, providing test plan templates that ensure your team conducts fast, effective research.

Key Features

The Saved test plans feature is available for anyone who can launch tests. Saved test plans are available at the account level to anyone regardless of workspace privacy settings. Saved test plans let you:

  • Make centralized research a thing of the past without sacrificing accuracy and confidence.
  • Create and manage a library of templates that team members can use to confidently collect customer feedback.
  • Empower non-researchers to conduct their tests to increase customer empathy across the business.

Note: Saved test plans are not available for Live Conversation.

How to Create a Saved Test Plan

Create and save a test plan from multiple places within your account. 

To save a test plan from the dashboard, do the following:

  1. Click the name of the test you want to save as a Saved test plan.
  2. Navigate to Details.

  3. Navigate down the page and click Save as template from the test plan section.

  4. Enter a title and brief description so that it's easy to find later.

If you have a Premium or Ultimate subscription, you may also save the template as personal, workspace, or account. All other subscription plans can only save at the account level—view our article "Template Access Control" for more information.

You can also save a test plan from the test launcher: 

  1. Create a new test, open a draft, or create a similar test. Select Build test plan.

  2. Drag and drop tasks, questions, and assets to build your test plan.
  3. Click Save as Template when you're done.

  4. Enter a title and brief description so that it's easy to find later.

How to Use a Saved Test Plan

Once you save a test plan, anyone on the account with an unlimited, standard, light, or creator license can select it to create a test, regardless of workspace privacy settings.

To create a new test using a saved test plan from the dashboard, do the following:

  1. Click Create test and select Customize a template

  2. Select the test plan you wish to use by clicking the Account templates filter for templates your team can access, or the Personal templates filter for templates only you can access.

Note: The UserTesting team develops UserTesting Templates.

To create a new test using a saved test plan from the launch pad, do the following:

    1. Create a new test, open a draft, or create a similar test.

    3. Select a saved test plan template.

      Note: If there isn't a saved test plan that suits your needs, you can create a new test plan from scratch.
    4. If you added the wrong test plan or changed your mind before launching your test, you can delete the test plan and either select a new saved test plan or create one from scratch.
      Note: Deleting the test plan only deletes it from this test, not permanently.

How to Manage Saved Test Plans

If you have a Premium or Ultimate subscription, any team member with an unlimited, standard, or light license can edit and delete saved test plans via the Template Library. View our article "Template Access Control" for more information.

To make changes to your Saved test plans, do the following:

  1. Choose Manage Templates in the navigation menu on the dashboard and select the Test plans tab.

  2. To delete a specific test plan, select this action from the Options (...) dropdown menu.

  3. To edit a specific test plan, select Edit template from the dropdown menu or click the test plan title. Make changes to the test plan, then click Done

Task Incompatibility

Some task types are incompatible with mobile app tests, such as the 5-second test and those containing an image or URL

In the Template Library, the Test types column shows which types of tests a saved test plan can apply to.
